Our homes are an extension of our home parish, and by extension the Church. Therefore, it customary to bless our homes annually following the Feast of Theophany (Jan. 6), or when we move into a new home. One can ask request a house blessing in the unfortunate event one’s family has dealt with hardship so that we might invite God into one’s home, to renew and redouble our strength, and to give thanks for how He has preserved us.
It is also appropriate to bless one’s business and ask God for His assistance and strength in this new endeavor.
